Kwame Traded To The Lakers

Or at least it looks like that's going to happen.

The specifics: It's being reported that Washington will sign and trade Kwame Brown to the Lakers for Caron Butler and either Chucky Atkins or Devean George.

How This Looks For Washington: Great. They needed a shooting guard and they got a pretty good one in Caron Butler. He's not as skilled as Larry Hughes, but he's about one-fifth the price and is still young. Also, considering they cut him from their playoff roster, Kwame didn't really have a future with them.

How This Looks For The Lakers: Pretty good. They desperately needed a post player and they had no money to spend. For Caron, Kwame is just about the best they could do. They also aren't paying Kwame that much, 6 or 7 million. Even better, the contract looks like it'll be guaranteed for only 2 years so if he's a malcontent bust, they aren't hamstrung with a big long contract. On the other hand, Kwame's play had been inconsistent through his 4 years. And in the playoffs, Washington chose to have nothing rather than his mere presence. Not exactly a ringing endorsement. But I still think it is a worth risk taking. Kwame's got a chance for a fresh start with a coach he has to respect. And, if they hate him, some team would probably jump at his potential and trade for him.

Overall a win-win situation

On Trade Rumours!
I see that my Atlanta Hawks (I know, you're already laughing) are likely to sign the aorta-challenged Eddy Curry, so wipe him off your Laker wish list. One thing that always pisses me off about national sports publications and associated rumor mills is that they always take a team with a large fan base such as the Mets or Yankees and then rumour the most ridiculous trades imaginable...oh, look out! The Mets are trading a washed up Tom Glavine to Pittsburgh for Jason Bay AND Mark Redman. Oh look, the Yankees are 'considering' trading Jaret Wright and Kevin Brown to the Braves for Andrew Jones and John Smoltz. New York, I hate'ya. LA, don't even get me started. As for your rumour, I agree, a pretty good deal for both sides.

Craigeoke!!! I am so pleased you have honored my blog with your comments.

But your Atlanta Hawks on the other hand... What are they doing? So far they've gone after the big Lithuanian Z and Ray Allen: 2 vets who'd have no interest in playing for such a bad team. Now they're after Eddy Curry? Eddy Curry has potential and has been good at times (read: in a contract year), but him on Atlanta is a bad idea. He's going to get fat and not try to hard to improve the perrenial loser Hawks. And they'll have to pay a shitload for him or Chicago will match.

Not that I know what the Hawks should do... Maybe give up?

We've tried to disband before- the players keep coming to the arena during the season- what do we do? I know they don't actually play (JR Rider, I'm talking to you) but they do stand on the court- which is all they have to do to make the games official?

All that being said, they are secretly building their best team since 'Nique (who clearly should be on the TOP 50 ALL-TIME PLAYERS LIST). Marvin Williams, Josh Smith- they are a point guard away from having a very Phoenix Suns-like team.

Anyways, doesn't matter. Hope you are enjoying Shareef. HAHAHAHA! Guy's a total nice-guy loser. Where the hell are the Jailblazers of old?

You know you're right. I am missing the old Jail Blazing Crack Pack. To our credit, last year two players did almost get run over during a scuffle at a strip bar and there was, of course, Quintel Woods having illegal dog fights in a room caked with dog blood. But, alas, Quintel's left us and now other than Darius Miles, I think this Blazer team might actually be straight and narrow.

Boring...

Just a follow-up to my previous contention:

From cnnsi.com, today:

"Mike Sweeney, 1B, Royals
Yes, he's the face of the franchise, but what does that mean when the team isn't winning and isn't drawing? Very little. Keeping a player for public relations value is never a smart move. Kansas City should be calling the Mets every day and offering Sweeney in return for some of New York's young pitching talent and a hitter such as Victor Diaz."

Yeah right. Sweeney-Diaz. great trade you stupid new Yorkocentric media hacks. Of course, all will be forgiven as the Braves win their unprecedented 14th (or is it 15th) title in a row. Night-Night.

I feel terrible doing this to you fabulous craigeoke, but you are most definitely wrong in your misobservation that the media exagerates trade rumors to NY b/c NY is so big. They report so many trade rumors there, because they spend the most money and make the most big trades.

As evidence of your mistaken small-cityitis, when the Portland Trailblazers were mass spending Allen's computer moolah and Trader Bob Whitsitt was making more moves than Travolta on amphetamines, the Blazers were also involved in just about every media reported trade rumor. Why? Because they probably were involved.
