Random Stats

Here are some statistics in last week's Economist I found interesting...

1. College tuition is 4 times higher in real terms today than it was in 1975.
2. China's economy appears to have passed up Britain to become the 4th biggest in the world, but it is only 1/6 the size of America's.
3. Japanese are more likely to make eye contact with a robot than a human being.
4. Half a century ago South Korea and Zambia had equal incomes. Today, an average South Korean earns 32 times the amount of an average Zambian.
5. There is supposed to be a big linguistic connection between Finland, Hungary, and the Finno-Ugrics of Russia. Today though, there are only 200 common words, 55 are about fishing and 15 have to do with reindeers.

Wait - not to be anal, but I'm confused. So there's 2,212 in the whole world and 2,200 of them are Americans? Or did I misunderstand.

Chuckdaddy,
Here is a statistic for you:
The following article reveals that that the National Education Association (are you a dues paying member?) has a CEO who made $439,000 last year. And of its 600 employees, half make over $100,000 a year. How does this make the average teacher (avg. pay $48k) feel?!?!?

(At least they give lots of money to liberal groups...)

Who let in the right winger! Just read your article Mr Miguelito Buchanon and well... It is a little disturbing. Of course I dare not say a bad thing about the teacher's union since THEY FUCKING KICK ASS. Although I agree that mandatory union fees spent on liberal causes is not right (even if I do agree with the causes), I certainly am happy to be unionized.
