Albums of 2007 Thus Far
So, I realize this is a bit premature. But as Chuckdaddy's daddiness comes closer and closer... Well let's just say I might be giving two shits about the best albums of 2007 at the end of the year when diaper genie maintenance and the pros and cons of montesorri schools become paramount to my existence.
Anyway... What are the albums of this year so far? I feel like there's been a bunch of good ones, by people whose previous album I liked better (Andrew Bird, Spoon, Beirut (I think, I just started listening to it), White Stripes...). I also liked Peter Bjorn and John's, but the only album that really stood out to me was Feist's Reminder. What about you guys?
Albums of The Year
Feist: Reminder
Overrated Albums
Any ideas?
Honorable Mentions
Spoon: Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga
White Stripes: Icky Thunp
Andrew Bird: Armchair Apocrypha
Peter Bjorn and John: Writer's Block
The National
Battles
The Field
Of Montreal
Deerhunter
Panda Bear
Arcade Fire
LCD Soundsystem
Okkervil River
Patrick Wolf

Gosh C-dog- there has been an amazing amount of great music. I would suggest that you consider phenomenal releases this year from The National, Battles, The Field, Of Montreal, Deerhunter, Panda Bear, Arcade Fire, LCD Soundsystem, Okkervil River and Patrick Wolf, to name a few. Also keep your eye out for the following forthcoming nuggets - Band Of Horses, Sunset Rubdown, and the Backstreet Boys (give it a chance - dude!). Sorry about Oden. Hope all is well.
Not a fan of the new New Pornographers disc, but not enough to put it in the "overrated" column though.
Is it just me, or is Patrick Wolf the new Boy George of the oughts?
Craigeoke- You've given me some bands to check out. Do you have one you'd say is the best? And Oden... Ouch, the curse of the high 7-footer draft pick strikes PDX again (Walton, Bowie, Oden???)
Cherry Ride - I couldn't think of an overhyped album either...
Miguelito - Now that sounds like some serious Indie Rock trash talk.
Most of the above I'm fileing under "good not great." Nothing has really knocked my socks off in a while. Armchair Aprocrypha, I like a lot. Still thinking about Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga (however many). Been loving the Blue Scholars, but even there first disc maybe better than second. Looking forward to hearing the new Earlimart. Oh, and the squalls of ChuckBaby.
Miguelito is just jealous because he can't get his eyeliner and sequened blouses to match like Patrick Wolf's.
Charlie- if forced to choose, I'd say the National put out the best record this year to my taste - "Boxer" - Leonard Cohen-type melancholia about the desparation and detachment of the middle class ghetto. Typical Craigeoke topics. Excellent arrangements on each song - lots of horn and violin - quite sophisticated really. You might also like St. Vincent if you're into Feist, and the new Les Savy Fav record is delish!
Aren't you a daddy now? Congratulations!
I haven't heard enough new music to say one way or the other. I will say this, the most underrated band I know of is Powersolo.
ChuckDaddy! You're a daddy!
BIG congrats to you and Mrs. ChuckDaddy!
Can't wait to see the Chuckster!
Dude. Like, felicitations.
Over-rated: UGK. This record gives me a headache. I also have to put Peter Bjorn & Johns album in over-rated... sorry. More hype than substance.
My tops so far are...
The National, The Broken West, Menomena, The Narrator, The Eternalas, Okkervil River, Ben Lee, Blitzen Trapper (lots of "the" bands).
:)
I am here from Michael500's to say congrats!
Feist is okay. So is Regina Spektor. They are so similar. Both used to hurt my ears for a while but then I got a muffler on the lawn mower and all was okay again.
I just started grooving on Spoon.
HEY! Enough of that. CONGRATS agina!
i could not agree more and a belated congratulations and sorry to see your blog go. fr now.
